The 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (Turkmen: Ýapyk binalarda we söweş sungaty boýunça V Aziýa oýunlary/Япык биналарда ве сөвеш сунгаты боюнча V Азия оюнлары), which is as well counted as the 5th Asian Indoor Games, was held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan in 2017.[two] It became the third metropolis in the sometime Soviet countries to win the right of hosting an Olympic Quango of Asia-sanctioned event, post-obit Astana and Almaty in Kazakhstan, which jointly-hosted the 2011 Asian Winter Games. The Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games were held at the Ashgabat Olympic Complex, which is a unique facility which has no parallel in the Central Asian region. The Circuitous boasts of over 30 structures, which also includes xv competition venues, an Athletes' Hamlet and a Paralympic Rehabilitation Medical Center. The construction was launched by the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.[5] On November five, 2010, the Turkmen President took part in the official stone laying ceremony for the Olympic Village. Investment in the first stage amounted to nearly $2 billion.[6] The 2d phase of construction cost $iii billion.[seven] [8] [ix] The total price of the Olympic Village was $five billion and the construction was carried by Turkish construction visitor Polimeks.
For the convenience of athletes and spectators, the Olympic village accept all the necessary infrastructure including social, cultural and shopping centers, hotels, restaurants, cafes, shops, consumer services and car park. The campus are laid with new pedestrian crossings and a monorail.
Several national college educational institutions are located right next to the Olympic hamlet. The Turkmen State Constitute of Economic science and Management, Constitute of Culture, the State Border Service Academy of Turkmenistan and the National Institute of Sports and Tourism all have their campuses nearby. These universities will make use of the make new sports facilities, congenital for the Games, in the hereafter.

Test events [edit]
The Senior Asian Weightlifting Championship, the WAKO Asian Kickboxing Championships, and the Central Asian Short Class Pond Championships took place concurrently every bit office of the Inspiring Ashgabat Examination Event Series.[10]

The competition included 27 categories for men and x for women which were featured in the Band and 28 categories for men and 16 for women on the Tatami. The event saw upwards to 354 medals awarded.[10]

In addition to these international competitions the Aquatics Federation of Turkmenistan accept organised the starting time ever Fundamental Asian Short Course Pond Tournament which consisted of an invitational short class (25) contest in the new Indoor Aquatics Heart. Athletes from neighbouring countries Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Islamic republic of iran and Transitional islamic state of afghanistan volition be competed beyond a number of individual and relay events on 26–27 April 2017.[10]

The opening ceremony of the games took place on Sunday, 17 September 2017 at the newly built Olympic Stadium in Ashgabat.
Closing ceremony [edit]
The endmost anniversary of the games took place on 27 September at the Olympic Stadium. In that location were live performances from international singers such Russian Nyusha, Lebanese Elissa, English John Newman and many other local musical performers.[11]
Participating National Olympic Committees [edit]
All 45 member countries of the Olympic Council of Asia were invited to compete at these Games. For the first time in the Asian Games are attended by 17 Oceania National Olympic Committees.[12] [13] Oceania countries will be under full participation, so they will be eligible for medals.

Keepsake [edit]
The emblem of the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games is the prototype of Akhal-teke, the national equus caballus of Turkmenistan which is renowned for its speed, endurance and intelligence that represents Health. Surrounding the horse were the greenish Moon that represents Inspiration and the sunday, the symbol of the Olympic Council of Asia, which represents friendship.
Mascot [edit]
The 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games Mascot is a Central Asian Shepherd Domestic dog named Wepaly – meaning loyal friend in Turkmen. Locally known as Alabai, the Central Asian Shepherd Domestic dog is renowned every bit a mettlesome animate being in Turkmenistan for many centuries has helped Turkmen shepherds to safeguard flocks of cattle in heavy atmospheric condition in the sandy desert. Medals [edit]
The medals of the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games were revealed on February sixteen, 2017 and were designed by Singaporean company Eng Leong Medallic Industries. The medals shaped like eight pointed Oguz Khan Stars, the national keepsake of the host nation and featured elements similar olive branches and the five traditional carpet motifs on its obverse and the games' emblem on its reverse. The olive branches symbolising peace, the country's neutrality condition and its commitment to peaceful development of international relations, while the 5 traditional carpeting motifs represent the provinces of the country and the traditionally warm Turkmen hospitality. A total of 2,000 medals were produced for the Games, weighing 721 kilograms all-together.[27]
